Name Servers? DNS?

I recently purchased a domain name from GoDaddy. My website is hosted somewhere else. I think I figured out the domain forwarding; the site I%26#039;m hosted on says to use a number for forwarding but GoDaddy wants the url. Will this still work?

Also what are name servers? How do I use them? Do I need them? I%26#039;d call them but their wait time is really long.

Thanks!

Name Servers? DNS?

try forwarding to %26quot;http://%26lt;Your IP number here%26gt;

Name servers are basically the authoriative DNS servers for you website. Clients such as internet browsers look to the name servers to resolve your internet domain to IP address. In this case Godaddy should have the name servers for your domain name. In your case you are doing a simple forwarding you won%26#039;t need to worry about DNS records or your name server. You simply want to have people who try to visit http://yourdomain.com go to the IP address of the server your website is located on. The forwarding to IP address shoudl take care of that. If not you will have to go into DNS on godaddy%26#039;s control panel and input your IP address as the A record for the site.

I just tried it on a website I have on godaddy and it worked great. In the forwarding field just put your IP address after http:// and it should work just fine. Give it a while it can take an hour or longer for a farwarding to fully take effect.
