Can I host 2 different websites(2 domains) on the same server. If so how?

Using one of the following:

- Shared hosting

- Virtual Private Server hosting

- Dedicated Server hosting.

With a shared hosting plans, several web sites are hosted on the same server, sharing the server%26#039;s resources and using the same IP address. Virtual Private Server (VPS) plans consist of a server that is split into multiple virtual servers, each virtual server has it%26#039;s own IP address, some companies call these types of plans Virtual Dedicated Servers. Dedicated servers are the most expensive type of plan, each dedicated server customer gets their own physical server, nice to have, but prohibitively expensive for personal web sites and small operations.

At Ensode.net, we recommend that you find a hosting company that provides Virtual Private Server (VPS) support (some hosting companies call it Virtual Dedicated Server), since they provide a nice balance between price and control. A VPS server is like having your own server, usually with root access, which gives you the freedom to install any application you might need, including version control systems like Subversion or CVS, WebDAV, or anything else you might need. With a VPS plan you will most likely get your own IP address, and your server will be not only your web server, but also your mail and database server.

VPS hosting plans tend to be somewhat more expensive than shared hosting plans, but it is our belief that they are worth the extra cost since they provide much more control and flexibility. If you are a Java developer, chances are you are used to %26quot;getting your hands dirty%26quot;, and working on a server using good old Unix commands. Shared hosting plans tend to have %26quot;user friendly%26quot; (dumbed down?) interfaces, which might simplify administration, but can also severely limit what you are able to do, for example, let%26#039;s say a shared hosting company gives you 300 megabytes of disk space to host your web site, and an additional 300 megabytes for your email, if your web site takes 5 megabytes of space, but your email server is getting full, there is no way to allocate more space to store emails and reduce the allocation of web space. In addition to leaving you unable to reallocate resources as needed, you can also forget about installing any applications on your server. Another disadvantage of shared hosting plans is that an IP address is shared among several customers, which could have potential problems. For example, if one of the customers uses their mail server for bulk emailing, the IP address of that mail server may be banned from several systems, in a shared hosting plan environment, this would affect all the customers using the same server.

Can I host 2 different websites(2 domains) on the same server. If so how?

That all depends on your hosting company. Some will let you do it for free (Dreamhost [dreamhost.com/r.cgi?266275]), others will charge you after so many (APLUS.NET [aplus.net]).

All you have to do is add domain services to your account.

If your talking about a home setup, I have no idea.

Can I host 2 different websites(2 domains) on the same server. If so how?

2 domains, like foo.com and bar.com? I don%26#039;t think so, unless you want to get into virtual servers. 2 sites like foo.bar.com and poo.bar.com? Yes. Apache supports multiple web addresses; IIS can do virtual websites, but you may need separate network cards for each. I forget.

Webdesign/webhosting help !!?

hi i just bought a domain name from smallbuisness yahoo and i downloaded the yahoo sitebuilder but every time i try to publish my desgin a message appear that an error accure and advice me to vist yahoo webhosting programs so should i have a host to publish my site or is it posible to publish it without a host?! and can my domain be from yahoo and i host it through another website? a free one? thanx ..

Webdesign/webhosting help !!?

Hi there,

Yes you need a host and yes you can use a different host from Yahoo, even a free one.

Good luck with it! :)

Webdesign/webhosting help !!?

You%26#039;re very welcome! :) Report It

Other Replys:Yes you do need a host, this is because the host will be where you upload your site, to be reached by people on the internet.

Without a host you would have your domain but nowhere to put your built site.

hope this helps

FTP problem anyone?

So I bought my domain with one company. I am hosting it with someone else. I connected to my FTP and got my domain folder to appear. So everything seemed okay. I went to my files and dragged my main page into the FTP server.

Is that all I have to do to watch it online? Because if it is, it%26#039;s not working. What do you suggest? It%26#039;s a %26quot;.html%26quot; file, my main page. So I think that should be working perfectly, shouldn%26#039;t it? Why doesn%26#039;t my domain get started?

FTP problem anyone?

You should rename your main page to %26quot;index.html%26quot; (without quotes).

Than it will work!

This is because your hosting provider will automatically look for index.html and display that page when someone comes to your site.

FTP problem anyone?

often simply rename the file index.htm ou index.html and it should be load by default

Other Replys:I think that you shoud name the file that you put on the server: index.html It should work after that. I had the same problem. Let me know if it works.

Other Replys:Make sure the file you are uploading is called index.htm, index.html, or index.php

Also check to see if there is an error when uploading.

Try smart ftp

http://www.smartftp.com/

Its a really good, free ftp client

Other Replys:you shouldent abervate the words iam am not acomputer wiz so i dont know what it means

Other Replys:When you connect to your domain%26#039;s FTP site you will get a list of folders. Typically with most hosts you will either have a %26quot;public_html%26quot; folder, or a %26quot;www%26quot; folder. Possibly both.

You will need to upload the files you want live on the website into the %26quot;public_html%26quot; folder. for you to see the website live, one of the pages must be labeled %26quot;index.html%26quot;. (or .htm, .php)

Other Replys:ok depending on the host your main page must be named index.html or whatever they require . there should also be a folder with the same name i.e. index that contains any images or other content thats displayed on the page. . then it should work

assuming they have activated your domain name at your hosting company.

Other Replys:go to were your site folder is use file manager and find the page you uploaded rename it index.html and that should be it

Other Replys:you confusing me

Other Replys:Actually whenever a website is opened up its main pages (set in webserver are called up). By default, these names are index.htm, index.html ( also, default.html default.html). So hoempage of any website should be named one of the above mentioned name. As soon as the name of the website is typed and enter key is pressed. The file (index.htm, index.html , default.html or default.html. whichever is found first), would be opened up.

How do I host my own email server and DNS server? What exact steps need to be taken?

I am using Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition. I have a domain name. I would like to host the website and email myself along with my own DNS. What steps must I take. Thank you.

How do I host my own email server and DNS server? What exact steps need to be taken?

As long as you have a static IP Address you just need to registar a domain to point to your IP (many comps offer this (ie GoDaddy.com) It is not easy to set up your own DNS Server, So I advise you leave it to the pros.

As far as e-mail, You just need to set your system up as a POP3 or Exchange server. There are several POP3 Server apps out there

How do I host my own email server and DNS server? What exact steps need to be taken?

you want your own dns name in the internet?

thats so ****** simple

just go to my pc then right click on it

and look for DNS Name

then change it and restart your pc

www.xservers.i8.com

Free Teamspeak Servers, Free Online Storage!

Other Replys:For dns you need at least 2 machines and 2 addresses. You are better just to point you existing domains dns at your IP. You need to get a fixed IP address, this costs extra, you may even have to upgrade to a business broadband account which costs more. You need to set port forwarding on the router for each service you wish to offer. The firewall will need to be opened on each port. For email you need to run a very secure smtp service or you become an open relay for spam and will be blocked. You will also become liable for legal damages in some cases. Your own dns could be useful as your machine needs to offer dns for your own internal network as it needs to point to your private IP address (machines on your network can not see your external IP). This really needs 2 network cards, one lan side, the other web side as you will need to feed any internal machines through it, otherwise you may start giving illegal dns information externally. For reliability a ups is a good idea, it needs to run the pc and the router.

Other Replys:thats a loaded question BUT if you have a static IP address I suppose you could IF you mean a local dns server and local email server

as far as hosting an actual one its a very compliciated process and why ISP have huge costs, budgets and staff

you may have a domain name but unless you forwrd that domain to your server its hosted with your hosting provider and even then an actual email/dns/web server would be more than a local ISP would allow you to do UNLESS you bought a business package from them.

having said all that the steps would be something along the line of

1. get a static IP

2. get the hosting provider to forward your domain to that IP

3. setup exchange (pulled from microsoft web site)

Server-Specific Requirements for Exchange Server 2003

Before you install Exchange Server 2003, ensure that your servers meet the requirements that are described in this section. If your servers do not meet all the requirements, Exchange Server 2003 Setup will stop the installation.

Hardware Requirements

The following are the minimum and recommended hardware requirements for Exchange Server 2003 servers:

Intel Pentium or compatible 133 megahertz (MHz) or faster processor

256 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum, 128 MB supported minimum

500 MB of available disk space on the drive on which you install Exchange

200 MB of available disk space on the system drive

CD-ROM drive

SVGA or higher-resolution monitor

Partitions containing other Exchange files

Operating System Requirements

Exchange Server 2003 is supported on the following operating systems:

Windows 2000 SP3 or later Note:

Windows 2000 SP3 or later is available for download at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=1... Windows 2000 SP3 or later is also a prerequisite for running the Exchange Server 2003 Active Directory Connector.

Windows Server 2003

Installing and Enabling Internet Information Services on Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003

Exchange Server 2003 Setup requires that the following components and services be installed and enabled on the server:

.NET Framework

ASP.NET

Internet Information Services (IIS)

World Wide Web Publishing Service

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service

Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service

If you are installing Exchange Server 2003 on a server running Windows 2000, Exchange Setup installs and enables the Microsoft .NET Framework and ASP.NET automatically. You must install the World Wide Web Publishing Service, the SMTP service, and the NNTP service manually before running Exchange Server 2003 Installation Wizard.

If you are installing Exchange Server 2003 in a native Windows Server 2003 forest or domain, none of these services is enabled by default. You must enable the services manually before running Exchange Server 2003 Installation Wizard.Important:

When you install Exchange on a new server, only the required services are enabled. For example, Post Office Protocol version3 (POP3), Internet Message Access Protocol version4 (IMAP4), and NNTP services are disabled by default on all of your Exchange Server 2003 servers. You should enable only services that are essential for performing Exchange Server 2003 tasks.

For detailed steps about how to install the IIS prerequisites for Exchange Server 2003 on Windows 2000, see How to Install IIS Prerequisites for Exchange Server 2003 on Windows 2000.

For detailed steps about how to install the IIS prerequisites for Exchange Server 2003 on Windows Server 2003, see How to Install IIS Prerequisites for Exchange Server 2003 on Windows Server 2003.

Running Exchange Server 2003 ForestPrep

Exchange Server 2003 ForestPrep extends the Active Directory schema to include Exchange-specific classes and attributes. ForestPrep also creates the container object for the Exchange organization in Active Directory. The schema extensions supplied with Exchange Server 2003 are a superset of those supplied with Exchange 2000 Server. Even if you have run Exchange 2000 ForestPrep, you must run Exchange Server 2003 ForestPrep again. For information about the schema changes between Exchange 2000 and Exchange Server 2003, see %26quot;Exchange Server 2003 Schema Changes%26quot; in the guide What%26#039;s New in Exchange Server 2003 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=4...

In the domain where the schema master resides, run ForestPrep. (By default, the schema master runs on the first Windows domain controller installed in a forest.) Exchange Setup verifies that you are running ForestPrep in the correct domain. If you are not in the correct domain, Setup informs you which domain contains the schema master. For information about how to determine which of your domain controllers is the schema master, see Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 Help.

The account you use to run ForestPrep must be a member of the Enterprise Administrator and the Schema Administrator groups. While you are running ForestPrep, you designate an account or group that has Exchange Full Administrator permissions to the organization object. This account or group has the authority to install and manage Exchange Server 2003 throughout the forest. This account or group also has the authority to delegate additional Exchange Full Administrator permissions after the first server is installed.Important:

When you delegates Exchange roles to a security group, it is recommend that you use Global or Universal security groups and not Domain Local security groups. Although Domain Local security groups can work, they are limited in scope to their own domain. In many scenarios, Exchange Setup needs to authenticate to other domains during the installation. Exchange Setup may fail in this case because of a lack of permissions to your external domains.

Note:

To decrease replication time, it is recommended that you run Exchange Server 2003 ForestPrep on a domain controller in your root domain.

For detailed steps about how to run ForestPrep for Exchange Server 2003, see How to Run Exchange Server 2003 ForestPrep.

Running Exchange Server 2003 DomainPrep

After you run ForestPrep and allow time for replication, you must run Exchange Server 2003 DomainPrep. DomainPrep creates the groups and permissions necessary for Exchange servers to read and modify user attributes. The Exchange Server 2003 version of DomainPrep performs the following actions in the domain:

Creates Exchange Domain Servers and Exchange Enterprise Servers groups.

Nests the global Exchange Domain Servers into the Exchange Enterprise Servers local group.

Creates the Exchange System Objects container, which is used for mail-enabled public folders.

Sets permissions for the Exchange Enterprise Servers group at the root of the domain, so that Recipient Update Service has the appropriate access to process recipient objects.

Modifies the AdminSdHolder template where Windows sets permissions for members of the local Domain Administrator group.

Adds the local Exchange Domain Servers group to the Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access group.

Performs Setup pre-installation checks.

The account you use to run DomainPrep must be a member of the Domain Administrators group in the local domain and a local computer administrator. You must run DomainPrep in the following domains:

The root domain.

All domains that will contain Exchange Server 2003 servers.

All domains that will contain Exchange Server 2003 mailbox-enabled objects (such as users and groups), even if no Exchange servers will be installed in these domains.

All domains that will contain global catalog servers that Exchange directory access components may potentially use.

All domains that will contain Exchange Server 2003 users and groups that you will use to manage your Exchange Server 2003 organization.Note:

Running DomainPrep does not require any Exchange permissions. Only Domain Administrator permissions are required in the local domain.

For detailed steps about how to run DomainPrep for Exchange Server 2003, see How to Run Exchange Server 2003 DomainPrep.

Running Exchange Server 2003 Setup

After planning and preparing your Exchange organization in accordance with the requirements and procedures listed in this topic, you are ready to run Exchange Server 2003 Setup.

To install the first Exchange Server 2003 server in the forest, you must use an account that has Exchange Full Administrator permissions at the organization level and is a local administrator on the computer. Specifically, you can use the account you designated while running ForestPrep or an account from the group that you designated. Important:

When you deploy Exchange Server 2003 servers into multiple domains for the first time, verify that the installation information for the first server you install replicates to all domains before you install the next server. If installation information from the first server has not replicated to all domains, there will be replication collision issues, and that server will lose permissions for the organizational object in Active Directory.

For detailed steps, see How to Install Exchange Server 2003.

For important information about post-deployment steps, see Post-Installation Steps for Exchange Server 2003. That topic includes information about how to verify that your Exchange installation was successful. It also includes information about the latest Exchange Server 2003 service packs and security patches.

Unattended Setup and Installation

Deploying multiple Exchange Server 2003 servers in a large organization with intensive messaging needs can be a time consuming and resource-intensive effort. Your organization may need several hundred Exchange Server 2003 servers, and though many of these servers will be configured identically, you may not have the resources to accomplish the deployment in a given time frame.

To remedy this problem, after you install your first Exchange Server 2003 server, you can install the subsequent Exchange servers in unattended mode, so that you can automate your server installations. An unattended setup of an Exchange Server 2003 server proceeds and completes without any prompts or dialog boxes. Furthermore, an unattended setup creates an answer file that stores information about a sample configuration. The file can then be used to set up Exchange Server 2003 on multiple servers. An answer file contains the deployment parameters and sample configurations so that you can specify what type of installation you want to perform. These configurations are normally set when you perform a manual Exchange Server 2003 installation on one of your servers.

You can run unattended setup only on servers that meet the requirements listed in %26quot;System-Wide Requirements for Exchange Server 2003%26quot; and %26quot;Server-Specific Requirements for Exchange Server 2003%26quot; earlier in this topic. Do not run an unattended setup if your servers do not meet these requirements.

For more information about unattended setup, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 312363, %26quot;How to install Exchange 2000 Server in unattended mode.%26quot; (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3...

For detailed steps about how to create an answer file for running unattended setup, see How to Create an Answer File for Running Unattended Exchange Setup.

For detailed steps about how to use an answer file to run unattended setup, see How to Use an Answer File for Unattended Exchange Setup.Note:

If Autologon is enabled on the server where the unattend answer file is created, the password of the user creating the answer file is stored in plain text in the answer file. Disable Autologon before using the /createunattend switch. For information about how to enable and disable Autologon, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 234562, %26quot;How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows 2000 Professional%26quot; (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3...

After starting unattended setup, Exchange Server 2003 is installed on your server automatically without any user interaction. To verify that your Exchange installation is successful, see Post-Installation Steps for Exchange Server 2003.

When Unattended Setup Can Be Run

You can run unattended setup for the following procedures:

Installing the second to nth Exchange Server 2003 server in your organization

Installing Exchange Server 2003 System Management Tools

Running DomainPrep

When Unattended Setup Cannot Be Run

You cannot run unattended setup for the following procedures:

Installing the first Exchange Server 2003 server in your organization

Installing Exchange Server 2003 in a Windows cluster

Installing Exchange Server 2003 in a mixed-mode environment (for example, Exchange Server 5.5 and Exchange Server 2003)

Performing any maintenance tasks (for example, adding or removing programs, re-installing Exchange, or upgrading from Exchange 2000 Server)

Switching from Mixed Mode to Native Mode

By default, when you complete your installation of Exchange Server 2003 into your organization, Exchange Server 2003 is running in mixed mode. If your Exchange Server 2003 servers have to coexist with Exchange Server 5.5 in the future, your organization must run in mixed mode. An Exchange mixed-mode organization uses Site Replication Service to ensure future interoperability and communication between Exchange Server 2003 servers and Exchange Server 5.5.

Running in mixed mode limits the functionality of Exchange Server 2003. Therefore, it is recommended that you switch from mixed mode to native mode. This section discusses the advantages of a native-mode Exchange organization and provides the steps to switch from mixed mode to native mode.

You are ready to change your Exchange Server 2003 organization to native mode if your organization will never require interoperability between your Exchange Server 2003 servers and Exchange Server 5.5 servers in the same organization.Note:

After you switch your Exchange Server 2003 organization from mixed mode to native mode, you cannot switch the organization back to mixed mode. Make sure that your Exchange Server 2003 organization will not have to interoperate with Exchange Server 5.5 in the future before you switch from mixed mode to native mode.

Advantages of Running Exchange in Native Mode

Because many Exchange Server 2003 features are available only when you run your Exchange Server 2003 organization in native mode, it is recommended that you switch from mixed mode to native mode. Running Exchange Server 2003 in native mode has the following advantages:

You can create query-based distribution groups. A query-based distribution group provides the same functionality as a standard distribution group. However, instead of specifying static user memberships, with a query-based distribution group you can use an LDAP query to build membership in the distribution group dynamically. For more information about query-based distribution groups, see %26quot;Managing Recipients and Recipient Policies%26quot; in the Exchange Server 2003 Administration Guide (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=4...

Your routing bridgehead server pairs use 8BITMIME data transfers instead of converting to 7-bit. This difference equates to a considerable bandwidth saving over routing group connectors.

Routing groups can consist of servers from multiple administrative groups.

You can move Exchange Server 2003 servers between routing groups.

You can move mailboxes between administrative groups.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is the default routing protocol.

Switching to Native Mode

For detailed steps about how to switch your Exchange organization from mixed mode to native mode, see How to Convert from Mixed Mode to Native Mode in Exchange.Important:

After you switch your Exchange Server 2003 organization from mixed mode to native mode, you cannot switch the organization back to mixed mode. Before you switch from mixed mode to native mode, ensure that your Exchange Server 2003 organization will not have to interoperate with Exchange Server 5.5 in the future.

To take full advantage of Exchange native mode, you must restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service on all of the Exchange servers in your organization. You do not need to restart all of the Microsoft Exchange Information Store services simultaneously, but you must restart the service on each server for the server to take advantage of all Exchange native mode features. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service on your Exchange servers after the change to native mode has been replicated to your local Windows domain controller. For detailed steps, see How to Restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Service.

Uninstalling Exchange Server 2003

After ensuring that your organization meets certain prerequisites, you can run Exchange Setup to uninstall Exchange Server 2003. For detailed steps, see How to Uninstall Exchange Server 2003.

4. setup dns

Registering Your DNS Server with Root Servers

If you plan to operate a primary DNS name server, you must register your name server with your parent domain. Not all your name servers need to be registered, but we recommend registering one-third to one-half of your name servers (up to a maximum of 10) with the parent domain. These servers are queried by servers outside your domain. The remaining name servers are queried only by hosts within your domain that are configured to query them.

If you provide DNS service for other domains and provide an authoritative name server for those domains, you must also register those domains.

To register a domain (and subdomain), you must contact the network administrators of the parent domain (com, for example) and the in-addr.arpa domain. Provide the administrators with the name of the domain name server and the name of the domain and any subdomains for which it is authoritative. If you are setting up a new domain, you also need to provide the IP address of any server you want to register.

InterNIC is the organization that registers domain names for the ROOT, com, org, net, edu, and gov domains. To obtain the form for domain registration from InterNIC, contact them at http://rs.internic.net. You can also obtain the form for in-addr.arpa domain registration from the same location.

Detailed information about the registration process is available from the InterNIC web site. You can also use the InterNIC web site to research domain names to ensure that the name you want is not already registered and to obtain additional information and help.

Our old web master is no longer with our group. We need to change our tech/admin/contact information to me so I can make any changes to the site if we need to. I was told by the web host he had that I can%26#039;t without his permission. I don%26#039;t know where he is and haven%26#039;t had contact with him for a long time. He was renewing the domain name and simple site for three years and just stopped this year. I happened to stumble on this information by chance and renewed it under his name to keep the domain name. I contacted the web host, paid 400% more than what I pay for mine but had to because that was all they would let me do. I need to know how to remove his name from the tech/admin/contact information and put mine. The web host said to contact ICANN, that that was the only way I was going to be able to change it. I tried to contact ICANN by their online support form and it has been two weeks with no response. Does anyone have suggestions on how to do this?

Old web guy left and need to change contact info to me but web host wont let me w/o ok from him. What do I do?

You have to make the distinction between a web host and a domain name registrar. As it stands, it seems that your have the web host thing all figured out, but you just need to fix up the registration info with the registrar. For ICANN, I suggest you call them and explain the situation as I%26#039;m sure they already have dealt with situations like yours. Another option is that some registrars like ICANN can reset your password for your account. What they do is send you a new password to the email address that was used to register the account. If the technical or administrative contact for your domain is actually something like admin@yourdomain.com then you could re-create that email address with your webhost and forward it to yourself. This way you will get the new password and change all of the info you need. Other than that, I simply suggest calling ICANN rather than submitting a ticket.

Old web guy left and need to change contact info to me but web host wont let me w/o ok from him. What do I do?

Again this seems to be a problem.. I have seen it before when something is in someone elses name.

You might have to hire someone to do it for you.

The domain is in his name now correct?

Do you know who it is registered with and can you log in there?

If you departed ways and it was not on a civil level I would back up the web page immediately.

I would import it as least so you could have the files.

Any dispute process could last months... to years.

Sorry to say..

Anything else.

Is there sites that host a web page for free?

I want to build a web page, using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and register a domain name. Are there sites that host, what I want to do, for free?

Is there sites that host a web page for free?

I don%26#039;t know any that are free but Yahoo gives you the first yera for $1.99 and it works great. I use it for my Ebay business. Any of the one%26#039;s that are free or were free just don%26#039;t work right.

Take care,

Kali :-)

BS, This comment gts a negative vote and is the best answer?

It%26#039;s a freaking Yahoo ad.

Yahoo sux Report It

Other Replys:i don%26#039;t know

Other Replys:uhm im not sure

Other Replys:Anything for free is pretty much useless. The saying %26quot; you get what you paid for %26quot; comes into play.

Other Replys:geocities on yahoo allows you to create a free webpage.

Other Replys:No, because it cost%26#039;s money to maintain that domain name for you.

If you want to post such a site free, best thing for you to do, especially if you have another PC, is to download %26quot;Apache web server%26quot; and launch the site from your own webserver. It won%26#039;t have it%26#039;s own domain name however, it will be in the IP address of your PC as the url.

Other Replys:type in %26quot;free web hosting%26quot; where it says search. you can also try geocities.com, and grammerweb.

Other Replys:Umm I%26#039;m not sure, but piczo is free thats more of a myspace sorta website tho %26gt;.%26gt;

Other Replys:Freewebs - 100MB.com - http://google.com/search?q=free+web+host...

For a domain, that one you%26#039;re going to have to purchase. www.godaddy.com has domains ending in .info (yourwebsite.info) for $2.99 for the first year.

Other Replys:As was already stated Free is not going to be the way you go when doing this.

Rather then you waste your time and money go to YAHOO%26#039;S GEOCITIES.

They offer you Domain Service, Web Hosting, and also there Software as well.

They are reliable and trouble free, for the money and there reliability you can%26#039;t beat them.

Other Replys:I host myself, you can access it via your PC name, IP address, anywhere in the world, anyone, any IP, no username (unless you want to), install http://www.apache.com/%26#039;s web server (try http://www.wampserver.com/), if you have it pre-installed, try http://iis.net/ for ASP.NET and PHP self (free) hosting. http://asp.net/ and http://php.net/ technologies MAY be included and it is always FREE for the amount of PC space you have. Then just install web application like forums, wikis and other web applications, easily (unless it is a different version or not plug %26#039;n%26#039; play, then you will need to fix the code and settings (not that difficult if you know PHP, ASP.NET, JS, VB.NET, C#.NET, ASP or HTML/XML code.

Try forum hosting at http://instant-forum.com/ or http://cjb.net/

Register your domain at http://cjb.net/ http://freedomain.co.nr/ or http://dot.tk/ for free, or own name server. There are a few free and new ones on the web.

Other Replys:If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don%26#039;t go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Cannot access site from japan?

I have posted content to my web site www.meetinginamerica.com, but people cannot access it from Japan. I have purchased the domain from godaddy.com and have hosting through ipowerweb.com. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is there a workaround, such as getting different nameservers, or asking the hosting company to use different IP addresses? How do I tell if IP addresses are banned/blocked?

Cannot access site from japan?

I would contact whoever you are paying money to but a temporary workaround is for the Japanese to use a US proxy such as from: http://proxy.org/

This will probally seem like dumb question to some poeple, but I'm closing my account at Dreamh

and I need help. It said this when they ask you about closing your account

However, if you close your account you will get a credit of $127.20 for unused services you%26#039;ve already been billed for.

You will have to pay for your free domain registration if you cancel your hosting account now though, meaning there will be a charge of $9.95 added to your account.

You are within our 97 day money back guarantee (it has been only 66 days since 2007-09-05)!

Overall you%26#039;ve made $67.30 in credit card payments. $9.95 must be used to pay for your no-longer-free domain registration.

Therefore, $67.30 will be refunded to your card(s).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My question is would I have to pay the $127.20 or Just the $9.95?
Thanks
This will probally seem like dumb question to some poeple, but I%26#039;m closing my account at Dreamhost....?
You will pay $9.95 and get a credit of $67.30.
Have a good time with the money!
What are nameservers?
I am trying to get a domain and it%26#039;s asking for hosting nameservers. I will be hosting with freewebs.com for now. Is that what I am supposed to put in? They are asking for 2.
What are nameservers?
Name servers are sort of like the telephone number or address of your website. Contact freewebs.com for the information you need, they will know exactly what you are asking for. It may even be included in any registration information or FAQs you have already.
What are nameservers?
host that provides name resolution for a network. Name servers translate symbolic names assigned to networks and hosts into the efficient Internet addresses used by machines
yes u should use freewebs.com , but it%26#039;s better to go to freewebs.com%26#039;s FAQ or support link to find the name server
Other Replys:A name server, short for DNS (Domain Names Server) keeps named nodes and their assigned IP in sync... Such as, the IP for a server at Amazon might be 207.171.166.102, but you don%26#039;t want to have to remember that, so you type in amazon.com, and it translates the IP for you.
Other Replys:The server where you domain sits. You%26#039;ll have to contact freewebs.com for that information.
Or do yourself a favor and purchase hosting for $4 a month at GoDaddy.
Help with php?
I bought a script from pbpfox, I%26#039;m having so much trouble with my FTP and everything else. I also have my domain name and I also have hosting.
But anyway, my question is how do I build my website. I was under the impression that I can upload the files in the script via FTP and after that I can go into my cpanel and file manager and manage the site from there and i will have a website.
Is this true or do i need to build a website elsewhere and then import the scripts or what.
I need help uploading the script files to my hosting company. I have been having some problems with this for the last 5 days with no luck.
I have no idea what I%26#039;m doing but with good instruction i will be able to do it. I eventually will enroll in some type of class to learn the language that make a site works really well,
I%26#039;m trying to build a social network site for my clients. I don%26#039;t have the money to hire someone to do it, unless it%26#039;s under a $100, just to get it going and i can take it from there/ HELP
Help with php?
May be you can contact a web designer at websites like http://getafreelnacer.com/
Do not pay any money afront.
Help with php?
If your host supports PHP then you should be able to simply upload the PHP files to a directory.
Read the readme.txt or other documentation for instructions on setting up the MySQL database (i%26#039;m assuming it uses on if it%26#039;s a social network script) and changing any of the .inc files.
Website is missing.. help!!?
How do I find who hosted a website.. the website has been removed and I want the content of the site.?
I don%26#039;t have any details on anything but the name. It has just been realized and we would like to track who hosted it. The name of the domain is Polyworkscorp. It is a dot com.
I already did a whois. Network solutions is listed as the registrar.. but the hosting information isn%26#039;t there.
Website is missing.. help!!?
You need to contact the person on the whois and pray they have public info, you can call them or e-mail them
Website is missing.. help!!?
Well, once it is removed, you cannot really get the contents back. The only thing you can try is, when you google the site, google also stores the cached version of the site. Maybe you can try to view the cached pages and see if you can still see the contents.
Wikileaks' first amendment?
A US court has tried to shut down a controversial website that allows whistle-blowers to post corporate and government documents anonymously, but the court has no jurisdiction to do so.
The site, known as Wikileaks.org, has been taken offline in the US due to a court order from the District Court in San Francisco. However, the site remains online in other countries, including Belgium and Germany.
The order came after a Swiss bank, Julius Baer, earlier this month filed a complaint against the site and San Mateo, California-based Dynadot, Wikileaks%26#039; domain-name registry, for posting several hundred of the bank%26#039;s documents.
Some of those documents allegedly reveal that Julius Baer was involved in offshore money laundering and tax evasion in the Cayman Islands for customers in several countries, including the US.
The court ordered that %26quot;Dynadot shall immediately clear and remove all DNS hosting records for the wikileaks.org domain name,%26quot; according to court documents. It also said that Dynadot should prevent the domain name from resolving to the wikileaks.org site or any other website or server other than a blank park page until further notice
Wikileaks%26#039; first amendment?
The 9th circuit there in California has Judges that are real nut cases. Most of them should be removed, but it hasn%26#039;t happen and probably want.
The case will end up in the supreme court and will be dismissed.
Wikileaks%26#039; first amendment?
The truth hurts doesn%26#039;t it? If wiki. can back up their statements, U.S. 1st Amendment will apply.
Multiple websites on the same webspace?
I have a website on windows hosting provided by godaddy. Near to 4.9 GB web space is yet left unused on my account. Now I wish to purchase another domain and use it with the same hosting plan.
Problem - I am using their economy hosting plan, and they have told me I cannot run two websites with entirely different content on the economy plan. I can do so when I upgrade to their deluxe and premium plans which are really expensive and not much useful for me.
Their upgraded plans have a functionality that I can point the domain to a sub folder and store my new website their. Economy plan allows me only to point a domain to the root folder and not to any specific folder.
Is there a way I can run two websites on this economy plan without any problems w.r.t search engines and visitors?
Multiple websites on the same webspace?
Hi,
You do not have to buy your domain registration from GoDaddy to use the extra space.
Some domain registration resellers and registrars allow you to redirect your new domain to any folder in an existing domain, wherever it is hosted.
One service that I use that does this is http://www.directnic.com. They are not the cheapest around, but they are very, very flexible. Read what you can do for free with the domain names you buy through them.
However, by doing it this way, by pointing to a folder, you still will have only one control panel for your webhosting space.
Another solution is to find an inexpensive %26quot;reseller%26quot; account. With that you get a space for your domain and can also create a large number of other domains with their own control panels allowing you complete flexibility for each domain. Search on EBay for companies offering this. One I found on EBay that I now use costs $10 per month ... http://www.freshhost.net. It allows unlimited domains and bandwidth and a lot of disk storage. (This is much better than the services that say they %26quot;let you host 4 domains%26quot; on your account because you are still stuck with one control panel.) You can also sell webhosting to others from this acccount.
Hope this helped.
Gren.
How to set up my own website??
Ive seen these plans that go for as low as 2 dollars a year for a domain name now, my question if im building a website from scratch can I just purchase the 2 dollar a year plan that only provides a domain name and be able to set up a website or would this plan only give me the right to owning the name I choose for my website without actually allowing me to set up a website.
So if I buy the plan from yahoo for 2 dollars a year that provides a domain name can i also host a website or do i need a different plan
You should learn HTML and you can for free at http://www.w3schools.com/
You will also need an HTML editor, Adobe Dreamweaver is the best and comes with a 30 day trial.
http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweave...
The best free one is NVU
http://www.nvu.com/index.php
Then you need to find a host, I have several of the most popular free hosts listed below. If you need your own domain and you are willing to pay a nominal fee then http://www.godaddy.com would be your best option.
Microsoft Office Live offers a free domain http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office... but it will include their logo and link to their service on your site. They are hoping to snag a large share of the market by offering a free domain, hosting and 500MB of storage. It will require a credit card to verify your age.
You can also visit http://www.dot.tk/ and register a free domain but it will end in .tk rather than .com.
Need to to find a web host for a publisher built web site?
I have just finisherd building my website and have paid for the domain name; however, I am now looking for a place to host my website. The site was designed on Microsoft Publisher 2007 beta.
Also, what should I look for in a hosting service. I would like for it not to be terribly expernsive, since it is for a non-profit organization that I am starting. Thanks.
Need to to find a web host for a publisher built web site?
Get a free domain and free hosting
(not just a subdomain) from Microsoft.
http://officelive.microsoft.com/
(It%26#039;s still in beta and the features are limited.)
The least expensive place to buy a domain is
1%26amp;1. ($6/year - includes 5 page website and e-mail!)
http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=8292866
If/when you need more, hosting starts at $3/month.
Choose MS hosting (not Linux) since you want to use Publisher.
I forgot the name but there was a website that archives/backups website online. Maybe you are lucky and you will find it. Goodluck! Best way is to contact the domain name registrar or do a whois and get the dns. It might point you to the hosting company unless it had its own dedicated ip thingy.
I know that this sounds bad but I purchased a website then went to a hosting company to be able to host it and they switched my domain to them as the registrar I have tried everything and now they are trying to extort 500.00 from me to get them to put it back in my name which they took out of without my permission I need to try and find a way to get in to alldomains.com as them and switch it back to me and lock it down I will pay 100.00 to any one who tells me how to do this sucessfully
Alldomains.com Help I need it bad!!! I will pay $100.00?
Sounds like straight out theft to me.Write them a letter, and make a copy of it, tell them you are seeking legal representations and will put a lean against their company unless they release your website. Also they may have to pay any interest that you lose from your site. You may want to go to your courthouse and have this notarized and filed for future reference, good legal back up. Also may want to report them to better business Beau, and tell everyone what company they are. Seek legal help, first visits are free. Make sure you bring everything you have with you. Checks you used to buy your website, emails they have sent to you. Keep copy%26#039;s of everything!!! Postmarks and all!
Alldomains.com Help I need it bad!!! I will pay $100.00?
You should contact them again and tell them they have no right to do what they did. Tell them that if they do not put the domain name back into your name/ possesion then you will bring up a lawsuit for...Stealing your domain name. Obviously that is probably not a good reason, you would have to come of with a logical reason but I am not a lawyer. Try to speak to the company again.
How to build a Webstore Database?
Hello :)
I have some knowledge of html and web design, but Im not too saavy on building databases or ftp transfer.
My webdesign was done with Dreamweaver. I have Mysql,Php mini admin and Cute ftp on my comp already.
I have a good paid hosting service (Blue Host) and have purchased my own domain.
But I am lost at how to go about setting up a database or dealing with c-panel. Are there any good tutorials online that I could watch?
or someone that I could communicate with via email that could help me?
I have heard that Joomba is good for database frame work, has anyone ever used it? If so does it work well?
Thank you in advance for your answers :)
How to build a Webstore Database?
phpMyAdmin is good for MySQL management. A good book to read for mysql is larry ullman%26#039;s mysql book. MySql.com has good documentation too. I%26#039;d say get PHP %26amp; Mysql for the world wide web from larryullman off of amazon. Its really easy from the book (get it used), it will show applications of mysql with php. From there you have mysql.com to fill in any blanks.
How do I find out the host of an existing website?
My boss wants me to set up a new website for his business. He has an old website, but it is old and he doesn%26#039;t have any of the passwords/information for it. Is there a way to retrieve that information, or at least find out what%26#039;s hosting the website? Otherwise, I%26#039;ll have to register a new domain, and I wouldn%26#039;t be able to use the name of the business, which is the old domain.
How do I find out the host of an existing website?
Go to the URL listed below and type in the domain.com address and check all the boxes. Click the go button and then on your results look under Registrar this is the name and contact information that the domain name is registered through. Then scroll down to the Registration information section and you will see who is registered as the current legal owner of the domain name which should be your bosses name. If it is a name other than your bosses you will have to contact them about buying the domain back. If you do not keep registration of domain name paid up you loose it.If no information shows up means the domain name currently is not registered and you can just re-register it. It would not be the first time people think they own a domain name when it is legally registered to someone else.
How do I find out the host of an existing website?
I was not able to do so in domain.com, as they seemed to be charging for the information. I could do it in whois.net as in the other answer. Thanks anyway. Report It
Also works. Here is more information about whois lookup tool.
WHOIS is a TCP-based query/response protocol which is widely used for querying a database in order to determine the owner of a domain name, an IP address, or an autonomous system number on the Internet. WHOIS lookups were traditionally made using a command line interface, but a number of simplified web-based tools now exist for looking up domain ownership details from different databases. Web-based WHOIS clients still rely on the WHOIS protocol to connect to a WHOIS server and do lookups, and command-line WHOIS clients are still quite widely used by system administrators.
Other Replys:If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a %26quot;homepage%26quot; which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the %26quot;homepage%26quot; URL is likely to be %26quot;http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name%26quot; and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., %26quot;mydomain.com%26quot; which allows you to link any registered domain name to %26quot;mask%26quot; another website. For example, should you type in %26quot;domainname.com%26quot;, you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here%26#039;s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: %26quot;www.pizzanextdoor.com%26quot; which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: %26quot;http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzame... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!
Good luck!
DNS Server?
Okay, I want to start a small web hosting business. Educational purposes mainly. I am wondering, how do web hosting companies such as godaddy buy domain names? Like, what do I need to pay for, what software do i need and what do i need to register for?
Daniel
DNS Server?
GoDaddy is so large and efficient they%26#039;ve become a REGISTRAR. As a registrar you pay much lower fees as you register domains in bulk quantity.
To become a Registrar is a very complex process. Visit the link in the source for detailed information.
What's the cheapest way to create a website?
My swimming club is looking to update their website. We currently use geocities, and while it is easy to use we want to become more professional. I need to know a cheap and reliable host and I also want to know do I have to purchase my domain name from my new host. And finally I have a tenative design that I have created using a free website builder would I be able to use this?
What%26#039;s the cheapest way to create a website?
If you want to graduate from %26quot;free%26quot; to %26quot;your own%26quot;, I think this is the cheapest way to do it:
Computer + server software + ISP registration
Your needs are going to drive what kind of software you get, and it sounds like you don%26#039;t need anything beyond MS Server from Office Depot.
Your computer has to have the internal requirements to handle both the server software itself and the traffic that you expect.
The ISP registration is nothing more than creating your website and registering your unique internet web address. When you do this, you%26#039;re going to need to have an idea of what kind of traffic you expect. Ultimately, you%26#039;ll likely be placed on the least expensive tier unless you%26#039;re willing to put up prime google or yahoo cash for a premium registration for millions of daily hits.
Other Replys:I%26#039;d say JodoHost is a good one (http://www.jodohost.com). They also allow you to purchase a domain name from them, but you can buy your domain from a third party anytime.
I%26#039;d suggest, NameCheap (http://www.namecheap.com), after getting your account from JodoHost, you%26#039;ll just have to add your %26quot;name servers%26quot; to your NameCheap account. NameCheap also allows you to search potential domain names.
As long as you have the pages with you (the images, the HTML files, etc.), you%26#039;ll be able to upload that to your hosting with very little hitch. JodoHost will give you FTP access to your account, where you can upload your web files. They also have website builders you can use, if you wish to try it out. But considering you already have them, JodoHost will also accept that.
Yahoo! is also into selling domain names.
The one thing you will need to pay for is the domain, unless you use ezyrewards:
Complete offers, get a certain amount of points and register a free domain name, .info, .com etc.
It is a real scheme, I have two domains out of it:
Both from ezyrewards, and both hosted on freehostia.com.
I have picked a domain name and found a host now what? How do I go about creating my website? I do not know how to link my webpage to my domain name.
Creating a website?
well if you already have webhosting account
i m pretty sure that there must a option in host control panel
for directing domain name towards your webspace.
thou%26#039; if they aint from same server it will take some time like a day or so.
and your domain name must have nameserver ....that your hosting account has to point to get it working.
next thing you need to do is just
upload you webpages file on host space.
Note: first page should be index.htm/html cos server searches for that above all.
hope this will help
Cheers:)
Creating a website?
First of all, whats the domain registrar?
Secondly, if you got paid hosting, most chances you can change the domain on your own, if you got free hosting, find the DNS servers for that host, then go to your domain registrar and change the dns servers to the ones that are listed at your host, then contact your host, to change their settings so your website has your domain name(if it doesn%26#039;t, usually if you registered with a free subdomain, if you registered with your newly bought domain, you don%26#039;t have to do this).
If you%26#039;ve configured your domain properties you can now start building your website, wait 24-48 hours after you changed the dns settings to see if they worked, if they did you can start working on straight from your domain.
Other Replys:take an html tutorial from http://www.w3schools.com/
Other Replys:Here are the steps you should follow:
1. Get web hosting for your domain name - refer these articles for details
(a) I booked a domain name. Do I now need to get a web site? - http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/hostin...
(b) booked a domain name a few minutes back but the browser tells me that the site cannot be found - http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/hostin...
(c) I bought a domain name before and have just purchased web hosting - what do I do now? - http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/hostin...
2. Once you host your domain name, its time for you to start building your web site. Web sites are created using HTML (at least for beginners) and here is a neat HTML tutorial - http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/tutori...
3. When you have created your web pages using HTML, you need to upload them on your web server. I suggest you use FTP - step by step tutorial - http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/tips/i... and FTP basics (http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/basics...
Remember, creating a web site is NOT rocket science. Its actually quite a simple affair.
GoDaddy is good for domain names, but ignore the sales pitch when they try to get you to sign up for hosting. Even their %26quot;free%26quot; hosting costs you (very intrusive advertisements).
Instead, once you%26#039;ve got the domain name, grab a free hosting account that has NO ads, point your domain name there, then use the FTP account feature to transfer your files from Dreamweaver.
Get your domain ordered. GoDaddy sets up really fast. You will need web hosting - so order that too. Once you get your hosting all set up, it%26#039;s just a matter of FTP%26#039;ing the files you created to your web host. You can use the Sites section in Dreamweaver to connect automatically to your new hosting account directly from Dreamweaver.
Disregarding the answers of others...At first look, how would you pronounce "Sera Dol鑾絘?"
Sera Dol鑾絘 is the name of my catering company. After much indecision and waffling, trying to find a half-decent name, we settled on this last week (it took twice as long to figure out a name we at least agreed on). This past week, we have been moving very quickly: designing a logo and business documents, letterhead, and envelopes, registering a domain name and finding a host, etc. Just a few minutes ago, my business partner raises doubts about the name, citing the three or four people we have heard so far try to say the name. He says that this will lead to nothing but lost revenue and headache later on, and now is the time to change. I say that the possible costs incurred by the minor mispronunciations we%26#039;ve heard are far outweighed by the costs of trying to come up with yet another name, and have to redesign the business cards, letterheads, etc, no to mention look for a new domain name. So, ladies and gents...You are my random sample. A poll on here will really help us decide what to
Is it a must to get same server to host ? [web server + name servers]?
every server has a down time similarly name servers also have
if we buy domains at a reseller whose [domain name server] is different from [web host server] then downtime adds up
is there any host which has both servers with lesser downtime
is there any SEO tool to find out %26quot;%26quot;uptime of host%26quot;%26quot; - please tell me
thanks. . .
Is it a must to get same server to host ? [web server + name servers]?
Lots of places offer both. For example, Network Solutions (http://www.networksolutions.com)
I like this host, myself: http://www.bluehost.com. I think they also offer one free domain with hosting (or you can transfer your domain). I%26#039;ve been using them for hosting for a couple years, and I can%26#039;t remember the site ever being down.
Will using a shared host web server be ok?
My site currently is hosted with Yahoo. (SecuritySaint.com) . I am adding two more sites with different domain names and linking them together. I want to go to a less expensive host, will this effect my organic ranking? or hurt in any way? Any info. on CityMax web hosting? or Bluehost? I am considering them.
Will using a shared host web server be ok?
I can only speak in generalites as there are simply too many variables to refine my answer. In general, a shared host provides less overall bandwith than a dedicated host. So, if you share hosting, find a provider with fewer users. Fewer users means less competitin for the available bandwidth. There are web providers which will provide you with a dedicated hosting service, in which you are guaranteed a certain amount of bandwidth. Your specific needs will determine which is best for you. If you are cojnducting a business and need bandwidth, then a dedicated hosting service is best even though the cost per month will be higher. Shared hosting is cheaper than dedicated hosting, but then you have to compete with all of the other users of the same hosting service, and if they are doing business, may hog the bandwidth, which makes yours suffer. Your ranking may not change with bandwidth in search engines, since ranking comes from several parameters like hits per unit time and keywords, not throughput. You need to do more homework on the throughput issue. If cost is a factor, then by all means, go with the lowest per month, but your bandwidth/throughput may suffer. Only you can decide what works best for the purpose of your site(s) and how you conduct your web business, if indeed you are in business. I opted for a shared host with fewer users for my sites, but then again, I am not doing business, just running personal domains for my own entertainment.
Will using a shared host web server be ok?
Shared web hosts are not bad unless you are a very large corporation, I would recommend blue host because it has an auto installer which means you can auto install and manage like 27 scripts. They also have very good customer support ive heard, i am going to sign up with them in like a month or two.
This should%26#039;t hurt you because they offer a search site submission for free. Also, you have an easy to use control panel to transfer your content from anywhere you want.
Good Luck!
